Lots or reports from skiing around the Pacific Northwest, with some East Coast excursions thrown in for good measure

Here we go again – ski season 2011-12 is underway

Goodbye sleep-ins at weekends for the next 6 months. Welcome to long periods spent in a state of near hypothermia, crazy drives through snowy mountain passes, and hopefully more than a few deep powder days. Kicking off the season on November 19th at Mission Ridge was always unlikely to bring the latter, but like drinking Rogue beers, opening weekends with new boots are always wise to take easy. So we did, cruising Mission’s groomers in frigid, clear weather more reminiscent of mid-January than November.

We’re ready for Thanks Giving at Whistler now. Where the forecast is serious dumpage 😉

2 days: 5700, 5500

Season totals: 2 days, 11,200m vert

Nearly new ski season -time for new videos

The imminent arrival of a new ski season always prompts actions on video production. A whole season of footage lies unedited and unviewed on my hard drive, a situation that needs remedying before new storms and new slopes begin to generate more footage.

So, here’s the first of (work permitting) two or three videos of last year’s fun and games – Niseko, Japan, late December 2010
