2010 Closing Weekend at Mt Bachelor

We closed down Bachelor, and our own ski season, in mid-May. Beautiful weather both days, with the snow remaining fast and firm all Saturday – really fabulous conditions and awesome views of the surrounding volcanic landscape. These never cease to amaze, causing me to stand atop and gape stupidly, like a geek looking at a new Apple product.

On Sunday the heat brought the ‘glue’ by about noon on anything sun exposed. Before then though the runs wide off the Summit hike towards Northwest were extraordinarily good. I got 3 laps in, all the way down to the lower catch line, before the traverse out became extreme drudgery. Luckily, the front side was holding up, so we hit the slurpi-like groomers to bring a slushy end to a great ski season.
