Pacific Northwest Ski blog (and a few other places!)

Lots or reports from skiing around the Pacific Northwest, with some East Coast excursions thrown in for good measure

Schweitzer in mid-January

El Nino is being kind to Schweitzer this season. So, armed with yet another Aussie visitor, it was back to stay in the pleasantly comfortable Selkirk Lodge for the weekend. Mel was a newbie, so she stayed on the beginner slopes in lessons, while we skied perfect creamy groomers and packed powder on the north facing steeps. Only the lower parts of the runs off Stella were firm on groomed, a small patch of punishment in a vast snowy sea of enjoyment.

Our schedule precludes a return trip before March, but I hope we get back to Schweitzer this season. Assuming El Nino stays friendly, that is.

Here’s a video of the weekend.

2 days: 8000, 8200 vertical metres

Season totals:

25 days:193,000m vert
